When sixteen-year-old Jane's mother goes missing, the only thing she leaves behind is a card saying 'Happy 1st Birthday' with the message inside: 'YOUR GIFT IS THE GAME. DARE TO PLAY?' Frustrated by the lack of interest from the police, Jane goes online and makes a chilling discovery: the same card has been discovered in four other missing persons cases. She turns to a family friend for help, former MI6 agent Marcus Jameson, and soon he and his partner, psychologist and private detective Dr Augusta Bloom, are on the case. As Bloom delves into the lives of the missing people, she finds something that binds them all. And that something makes them very dangerous indeed. What if, this time, they are the ones she should fear?
