Killer Chardonnay | Kate Lansing

A young winery owner won't let one sour grape ruin the bunch in the first installment of this exciting cozy mystery series. Parker Valentine has always dreamed of opening her own winery in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado. But she gets more than she bargained for when a food and wine critic unexpectedly shows up at Vino Valentine on opening day. A negative review could be fatal for her business, and not only does he seem to hate her chardonnay, he also collapses and dies shortly after drinking it. Although Parker hoped that the attendees would put a cork in it, soon her winery is at the center of a social media firestorm. With #killerchardonnay trending online, Parker's business is in danger of closing, and she has no choice but to investigate the murder herself. To restore her reputation, catch a killer, and keep her struggling business open, Parker needs only one thing: some good proof.

I finished this on my walk today. Parker has always dreamed of opening a winery and when her aunt leaves her an inheritance, she finally can. But on opening day a food critic is murdered. Parker sets out to solve the crime and save her dream. It also has a couple of recipes and wine pairings. Book 2 done for #20in4 readathon. @Andrew65 #Booked2022 #IncludesARecipe @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage My #BookSpin book for August. @TheAromaofBooks

Confession: wine themed cozy mysteries are my jam...or maybe my glass of wine! This first in the new Colorado Wine Mystery series is fun, with a very determined heroine who faces obstacles from day one of her new winery. When someone passes away on opening day, Parker Valentine has to find ways to keep her dream a reality. Some of the characters are facing dejection and sorrow in their lives, not to mention bad family dynamics.

Loved this!

Killer Chardonnay fits my #ReadYourSign challenge as it is the first book in a series- because I'm a Gemini and Aries is a love match and their ruling number is 1.

I read the eArc of this, although it's now out. I really liked the setting- a Colorado winery run by Parker Valentine. I did suspect the killer, but it was still a fun ride. Not sure I'm crazy about the spark of a love triangle, mostly bc I like both the men.

MidnightBookGirl **Also something I learned: I guess I had assumed that all wineries had actual fields of grapes they grew themselves, but you can just buy grapes from other people and make your own wine that way. 4y

Though I‘ve no experience with starting a business, especially anything winery, this story felt authentic to me from a start-up standpoint. There was a bit of a love triangle going on for Parker and, sadly, I‘m never a big fan of that. Luckily, it wasn‘t a major focus. As far as the sleuthing goes, some of the choices Parker made in the course of her investigation made little sense to me but nothing outside the expectations for a cozy mystery.
