Pickpick

I always love when I‘m surprised by a book. And I‘ll be honest, I let the ho-hum cover put a preconceived notion in my brain. Even though the reviews on here are mixed, I enjoyed this first in series historical mystery set in 1897 San Francisco. Atticus Riot is a haunted and disillusioned PI returning to SF following his partner‘s murder 3 years before. He is tasked with finding a missing heiress before he can seek retirement. Isobel Kingston 🔻

robinb is not your average 20 yo young woman of the time (or probably any time). Told in alternating voices, the plot line is entertaining, and both Riot and Isobel are fascinating characters…very intelligent, unconventional and flawed. This was a quick read and kept me absorbed for the entire adventure, and I‘m happily anticipating peeling back the layers of these characters in future books. 4.25/5⭐️ #BookSpin @TheAromaofBooks 1y

Okay, at best. Too disjointed for my taste.

Great writing, slow plot. Atticus Riot & Isobel Kingston were bold & fun, & engaged me from start to finish. Lovely phrasing & some excellent descriptions brought turn-of-the-century San Francisco to life vividly. The mystery itself plodded slowly; I found my attention slipping as to who did what & when — so that when we got to the end, I was not totally sure as to how all the pieces fit. Still, I‘m interested to see where it goes next! ★★★☆☆.

A slow beginning and it took me a little while to settle in to the narrative but once in I was hooked. A feisty heroine and an intelligent hero who make a worthy team. I received this ebook from the author through Voracious Readers and I am very glad to have been introduced to this new detective series.

I‘m having a terrific time visiting friends in a Rockhampton and haven‘t had much time to read, I‘m mainly reading ebooks which are on my phone for ease of access. Loving spending time with my friends. 📚💚❤️💙

I talked myself out of a trip to B&N (I was having dinner across the street). I'm pouting now so I bought new books for my #kindle instead to comfort myself 🙈🤷‍♀️ #bookhoarder #idonthaveaproblem
