As already mentioned, I'm not the target demographic for this book but I wasn't thrilled. I appreciated Flora's determination to find justice for her murdered friend but she was so unlikable that I didn't care much about her. The plot was unbelievably, melodramatically, over the top and the final chapter just pissed me off. I would have DNFd but a friend recommended it so I felt compelled to finish. I'm marking it so-so as I'm not a young adult.

I almost choked when I read this. Flora has spent the whole book thus far running headlong into danger (usually after promising someone she'll wait for backup or more information) and then being flat out unable to apologize, or even express any emotions whatsoever, to her nearest and dearest. And somehow she believes she's been showing restraint? And remorse, when things go wrong???
I'm finding this girl hard to stomach. #ProbablyTooOldForThis

It's not that this was a terrible book, it's fast paced in the beginning, it gives shades of Veronica Mars, it's diverse... it's just a overly long and a bit over the top.

Yesterday's total was not what I was going for, but I did get lots of laundry done, sold our old couch and chaise to make room for our new couch being delivered Friday, grocery shopped, cooked and cleaned a little, and watched a horror movie.

so-so

I guess this book is kind of like Veronica Mars meets The Beckoning Shadow which sounds so appealing to me, but instead it just falls a little flat.

Also the MC's female love interest dying and her getting a male love interest within a week whilst she investigates her murder is a tiny bit iffy. Bi women are absolutely still bi if they date men but the bury your gays trope and general violence towards queer women in this is a little hard to take.

wicdiv I much preferred The Boy in the Red Dress as a detective book with a queer protagonist but I wouldn't be opposed to reading more YA/adult books like this.
