There is a lot of heartbreak and hard living in here, but ultimately this story is about trust, hope, and family. 17 year old Worie Dressar loses her mother at the beginning of the story and works hard to continue her legacy of feeding and caring for children who have been orphaned by typhoid and influenza. I liked seeing Dorie put focus on the task at hand rather than romance!! She‘s tough and flawed but I like her. Set in 1870‘s Appalachia.
