Return to the third book in the Revenger Trilogy, for another thrilling tale of set among the stars . . . Quoins are accepted currency throughout the thousands of worlds of the Congregation. Ancient, and of unknown origin and purpose, people have traded with them, fought for them, and stolen quoin hordes from booby-trapped caches at risk to life and limb throughout the Thirteen Occupations. Only now it's becoming clear they have another purpose . . . as do the bankers who've been collecting them. The Occupations themselves are another puzzle. The rise and fall of civilisation may have been unevenly spaced across history, but there is also a pattern. Could something be sparking the Occupations - or ending them? And if so, what could it be, lurking far beyond the outermost worlds of the Congregation? The Ness sisters are being hunted for crimes they didn't commit by a fleet whose crimes are worse than their own. If they're to survive, and stay one step ahead of their pursuers - if they're to answer the questions which have plagued them - it's going to require every dirty, piratical trick in the book...

It's been a big day finishing off some books I've been reading, including this final volume in the Revenger trilogy. By the end we have some big questions answered and sense of just how far in the future this is. This entire trilogy has been good space pirate fun. Reynolds says he's done with the Mess sisters, but we'll see if in the future they aren't done with him. I'm really looking forward to whatever he writes next.

MsMelissa I have the first of this trilogy on my Kobo. I‘m glad you enjoyed the whole thing! 5y
speljamr @Book_Fiend_Melissa I am also an admitted Alastair Reynolds fan. When he publishes a new book just take my money. 5y

Tonight's dinner is apple wood smoked turkey breast with rice noodles made from purple rice with green beans. Noodles and green beans have a touch of garlic spread on it with pepper. Accompanied this evening with some hard sci-fi reading from Alastair Reynolds.

Mehso-so

Sadly unsatisfying - a long slow space chase followed by a muddle of revelations that... don‘t really get resolved. This doesn‘t feel like the final book in a trilogy. There‘s still lots to love about the world-building and I dearly want an RPG in this setting, but while Reynolds may be done with the Ness sisters he doesn‘t convince me that the underlying story is even half done. #LitsyAToZ

‘The Night Clock, The Shadow Castle, The Labyrinthine, The Milk Churn, The Flytrap and The Croupier‘

And now I want to know all about baubles too. Or better, a Revenger rpg to explore them through 😍

‘...the Epoch of the Bauble-Makers, the Council of Clouds, the Glass Queens, the Incarnadine Multitudinous, the High Instrumentality...‘

AAAAAH don‘t tease me with historical world building you‘re never going to tell me, Mr Reynolds! Now I need to know about these Glass Queens and the Incarnadine Multitudinous 🧐
