A frightfully honest war memoir from one of my favourite authors. GMF the author of the Flashman novels was an infantryman in Burma in 1945, where he served in one of the final campaigns of WW2. A story of the reality of combat - boredom with moments of terror, comradeship punctuated by sudden death. Interesting in that I respected him perhaps more, but liked him less at the end of this book than I did before reading.
