Before the Poison

so-so

Although well written, this book was just underwhelming for me. I liked the main character & was entertained by how much alcohol he consumed through the book but other than that the story just trudged along for me. The MC buys a house that has a tainted past where the wife poisons her husband and is hanged for her crime. The MC becomes immersed in trying to solve if the wife was ever truly guilty. In all just a predictable story with no surprises.

I asked my mom to donate any books I left at home about 6 months ago, but she saved some that she thought seemed interesting in case I changed my mind. They number about 100, and fill a small shelf. I was so touched.

Even though I owned these before, this definitely feels like a #bookhaul ! I had to limit myself to 5.

I quite liked this book. It was on my TBR for over a year and I am finally starting to break into that pile. I thought that this novel created a great atmosphere and a great escape. But I was disappointed with the ending. Most of the women in this book were all described as incredibly beautiful which got a little annoying. But I did really enjoy reading from the main character's perspective. I liked him.
