What a powerful set of poems; the Audiobook really elevated these.poems to hard hitting, hold accountable poems, for everyone who lives in the United States. Excellent Book of Poems; 5 Stars.

I love this collection so much I listened to the audiobook first, then went to the text. The poetry is so passionate and so honest. I get why people love to hear Jessica Care Moore read her poetry, and I really get why she‘s written rap songs. There is such a musicality to all of her poetry. It deserves music behind it. It‘s beautiful, powerful, and wonderful. I couldn‘t recommend this collection more. She‘s going on my favourite poets list.

Admittedly some of this just didn‘t resonate to me. But the poems that did - like “We, Too, Sing America” (above) - hit hard.

I‘ve seen first hand what she was talking about in this poem, though. I think this whole poem needs to be painted on the wall outside Greg Abbott‘s office door. Just sayin.

Stark, poignant, beautiful, powerful.

Loved this poetry collection. Xenophobia, racism, sexism, abuse, misogyny, body objectification, but also hope, strength, beauty, self love, pride, legacy, womanhood, communal care, universality, and love. My first exposure to Moore, but I‘ll be looking for more of her work.
