This book is about a lonely dog named Rover who is sleeping in his doghouse when ice storm passes by. He is sure glad he has a dog house to sleep in until a bunch of visitors coming to stay with him. Everything was OK until they found a skunk in there too. They all ran away looking for someplace else to stay warm. After that Robert was happy to have some alone time.

Rover is a dog who wishes he could romp and play with someone, but when it starts to rain Rover gets more company than he could ever want! With repetitive rhyming content this Theodor Suess Geisel Honor award winning F book is great for emergent readers. In the classroom I would utilize EL strategy 14 and UDL strategy 3.2 and use this as a DR.

DrSpalding What a wonderful Geisel award winner selection. Just because it rhymes does not necessarily mean it is poetry. Seek out anthologies, or collections of poetry that could be utilized in your classroom. 7y
