Give Up, Gecko!: A Folktale from Uganda
Give Up, Gecko!: A Folktale from Uganda | Margaret Read MacDonald
3 posts | 3 read
"Elephant! Elephant! Heavy! Heavy! Heavy! Elephant! Elephant! STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!" Elephant was shouting and stomping. But could he stomp a hole deep enough to reach water for the thirsty animals? Maybe...maybe not. All the animals tried until tiny Gecko takes a turn. He is small...but he is determined. And he's not going to give up! Kids will love to chant and stomp along to this Ugandan folktale.

Very cute motivational folktale from Uganda, about never giving up.
Fun Fact: Geckos lick their eyeballs!
This was my first read for #foodandlit2023 and I ran across this fun cookbook. Check it out!

I think that it is a great tale to be told to children, or anyone at any age(pub.2013). I liked the whole storyline of the gecko, being one of the smallest animals, being one of the bravest to get the water. I think that it teaches a value-able lesson to be brave.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the illustrations. I would say that they are very simple, but that there are plenty of colors and animals.
“Soon the middle-sized animals all...gave up.“
