22 #91 I have gotten so far behind in my reading challenge. Mom was in the hospital for almost two weeks and I just couldn‘t absorb a book. This book was what I was reading when she got sick. Far too heavy for the moment. I finished it but didn‘t really enjoy it.

A very good story. A fictionalized telling of an all-female squadron of Russian pilots during World War II.

The 'Night Witches' were an all-female Russian Night Bomber Aviation Regiment. Sigh. I do love a nice historical novel about fearless females doing all they can during a war, but I feel like this book could've been so much better. All in all I'm very happy this book has been written - you don't hear much about these female bomber pilots right? It was just a slight disappointment.

One more audiobook done ✅ I‘ve been scratching away at this one for a while. Overall it was a good read. I haven‘t read a lot about women in the air force during WWII, so I liked that. I also have a huge respect for the Night Witches. I felt like a few major plot moves were out of character, I wanted it to end a little differently, and I would‘ve appreciated less sex, forced or otherwise. But again, overall, I enjoyed this book #audiobook

I‘ve never been a historical fiction reader until recently. This is an excellent example of this genre. I really enjoyed this book. The whole story was about struggles and triumph on several levels: personally, culturally, nationally, and globally. I became a fan of the Night Witches.

I love historical fiction.

“We have to be the best. Not just good,” I said, steel filling my bones. “We need to fly more missions than the men. We have to be more efficient than they are. We can‘t be excellent. We have to be exemplary.”

Runyan says, “So often in history,we dismiss women‘s work as secondary to men‘s.”

The characters are fictional, but not the history. The ending wasn‘t shocking, but I was satisfied. Long live the Night Witches!

My newest insomnia read, last month‘s Amazon first pick. It‘s interesting and an easy read—immensely better than my last pick (The Honest Spy), on which I bailed. A little too much romance on the front end for me, but I suspect (hope) that‘ll move to the background as the story unfolds.

Texreader @tpixie I️ think the hashtag for us is #Litsyatnight. Your book looks good. Is it? 7y
