Day 11: Dawn of the Dead

In this book an illness kills all adults except for a few who are now crazy and hungry. Only children under 14 are not affected and a group of them in London have banded together and are seeking a safe place to hide.

Klou This sounds really good! 4y

It took a few chapters to really hook me, but once it did I couldn't put it down! Can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store!

The Circumstantial Enemy by John R. Bell is a wonderful historical fiction novel set in Croatia during WWII. Great cast of characters to both live and hate. The story is loosely based on the author's father-in-law's war experience. A must read for all WWII buffs.

This was so good. Seth (10) and I just finished it - he‘s not read a post-apocalypse story before and he loved it as did I. I would give a warning if reading with children - it is very gory and brutal and also very scary for some kids in a variety of ways. Seth doesn‘t tend to be scared by “classic” scary stuff hence I was happy to read him it, but some may not cope so well. Lots of swearing too! We‘re diving straight into The Dead #raisingreaders

Quasifesto I tore through that whole series. I‘m not a child, but I WISH there had been books like this available to me at 10 years old. 7y
JillR @quadifesto it was so good! And nice to be reading a book with him that didn‘t necessarily feel like a children‘s book. I think I‘d have been a bit young at 10 but definitely from 12+. Really looking forward to the next one 👍 7y
AmandaL My oldest son loved this series when he was younger! 7y

What happens when all the grown ups turn into zombies and the kids have to look after themselves? Charlie Higson will tell you! What an excellent book. I was hooked on this and will be reading the rest of the series. It's classed as a YA book but in all honestly, at 35 years of age I was scared!

Gritty, dark natured, hopeful and revealing of human nature. The characters all felt well developed and authentic. The various view points and narration of characters had me gripped throughout. A good read!

Bookaholic84 @MrBook The first one was awesome! Reading the second installment "The Dead" at this time. So far it's keeping the pace and the story going really well. 8y
