Honey, Baby, Sweetheart
Honey, Baby, Sweetheart | Deb Caletti
7 posts | 9 read | 4 to read
It is summer in the Northwest town of Nine Mile Falls, and sixteen-year-old Ruby McQueen, ordinarily dubbed The Quiet Girl, finds herself hanging out with gorgeous, rich, thrill-seeking Travis Becker. But Ruby is in over her head, and finds she is risking more and more when she's with him. In an effort to keep Ruby occupied and mend her own broken heart, Ruby's mother Ann drags Ruby to the weekly book club she runs for seniors. At first Ruby can't imagine a more boring way to spend an afternoon, but she is soon charmed by the feisty group. When it is discovered that one of the group's own members is the subject of the tragic love story they are reading, Ann and Ruby ditch their respective obsessions to spearhead a reunion between the long-ago lovers. This lyrical, multi-generational story of love, loss, and redemption speaks to everyone who has ever been in love--and lived to tell the tale.

Mehso-so

Book two of my attempt to read Deb Calletti and I think I like the idea of her books more than I actually like them. This one was far better then The Queen of Everything, but I still have some problems with her protagonists and the throwaway comments they make about other people. There was some beautiful writing, but I think too much was going on in the storyline for me to be fully invested.

This book is about love, family, friends, and your soul mate. It was beautiful.

The reason I chose this for blissful is it reminds me of country cruises on a wonderful sunny day. Not to mention it‘s one of my favorite books!

“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you're not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don't have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out." ~ Deb Caletti

Found this meme on Google and it applies to me. I would probably pass up the tagged book solely based on its title.

But seriously, no pet names. Here‘s an article for the perusal of anyone considering “honey,” “sweetie,” etc.

KGlibrarian Love this article! I hate pet names for all these reasons😃 6y

"quiet girl finds herself hanging out with gorgeous rich thrillseeking boy" uh huh... NO- Not my usual kind of book (so says my ugly internal booksnob, cough cough) But it is the only book on the boat I haven't read. I will probably ❤️ it!!

BkClubCare So far, so good. My internal book snob is retreating back to her depths. Book mentions: and 8y
