This was a really fun book to read! It's the 1920s, and Frankie Pratt wants to be a writer. Using her dad's Corona typewriter, she makes a scrapbook to tell her story.

This is a very short book, since there's not much writing on each page, but it's so much fun to look at all of the vintage decorations on each page!

3.5 ⭐️: This book is a unique book told via scrapbook style with a variety of real-life, context appropriate ephemera. While the story is surface-level and errs on the side of expected cliches, the unique format makes it an enjoyable and quick read. It would be an interesting gift for someone who loves scrapbooking/journaling and books with a touch of historical fiction. Full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6001570768

Mehso-so

The premise of a story in scrapbook format was intriguing, but this fell flat for me. I did like parts of it but overall it was only a so-so for me.

This was my first book of 2020 and it was cute but not very substantial. The ephemera used to create the book was very interesting did illustrate the story very well but the story itself didn‘t have a ton to it. Still a pick but not a strong pick. I adored The Warbride‘s Scrapbook and was sad to learn my library didn‘t carry this one. I lucked out and found a copy on eBay for $3! So excited when I realized it was set in my fave time period, the 1920s. I love everything about this book: the story told in scrapbook format, with detours at Vassar, the Mauretania and Paris. Worth reading and I‘m definitely glad I own it. 5⭐️ Highly recommended!

I treated myself to this “novel in pictures”. A fun read and palate cleanser. Full of photos of ephemera of the 1920s in scrapbook format. Perfect for someone who‘s over-tired and under-the-weather (me 🤒🤧😴), doesn‘t require much focus, and can be finished in one sitting. 3/5✂️s

Velvetfur That sounds right up my street! I'm going to seek it out, thanks for your great review 👍 6y

I have read and liked author Caroline Preston‘s three novels, and I also like this foray into a graphic novel as antique scrapbook pages. The storyline itself is predictable, but the book was a feast for my eyes! I‘ll be looking for her most recent one that came out last month, which takes place during WW2.

Her mom‘s godmother was Sylvia Beach (included in the storyline) of Shakespeare & Co in Paris; it‘s been on my bucket list for a long time!!

ValerieAndBooks @LeahBergen yes, it‘s a fun one! The author collects antique scrapbooks, which apparently inspired this! 7y
ValerieAndBooks @writerlibrarian I liked it a lot— now going to be on the lookout for her most recent scrapbook- inspired novel! 7y
LeahBergen I bought an amazing schoolgirl‘s scrapbook from the 1920s at a junky antique shop. I felt like I had to rescue this little bit of someone‘s past as it was so cheap and unappreciated! 7y
ValerieAndBooks @LeahBergen aww!! I hope her name was in it somewhere!! 7y

“Scott Fitzgerald got it wrong. College boys do not talk about dancing, petting, kissing, women‘s clothes, movies, or books. They talk about football, hockey, clubs, bootleg liquor, and automobiles”.

Enjoying the scrapbook format and the various literary references in this book! A good palate cleanser for sure.

And...the schools have already called it for another snow day tomorrow!!

kspenmoll We are home again tomorrow too here in CT.🎉plan to read.❤️ 7y

I came across this book as I was clearing out my shelves last week. I bought it years ago when it was published and loved it. I am NOT a graphic novel fan, but this is different. It's set up like a vintage scrapbook/diary and I devoured it. Looking forward to Preston's new book, out in January. #septembowie #youngamericans
