We visited Cumberland Island last Easter without knowing much about it. Between the beaches, the abandoned mansions, and the wild horses it was like stepping into a novel. I‘m now on a mission to learn as much as I can about it. This nonfiction book was a good starting place to learn about some of the history, gossip, and scandals.

I started cleaning up some of my gardens this morning while listening to the tagged book. I know it‘s too early but I can never help myself!

KadaGul Since we get cooped in for such a long time, if there is little warm weather ☀️ my mom does the same thing. 3w
Bookwormjillk @KadaGul it‘s not even that warm to be honest 😂 3w
KadaGul @Bookwormjillk For Chicagoland, it was sunny ☀️ but a little cold 🥶 my mom was out in the backyard pulling branches. 🤣🤣 3w

A fascinating look at the life of Carol Ruckdeschel, a relentlessly passionate advocate for wilderness preservation, who certainly hasn't led a boring life. It also covers the history of wilderness preservation generally and the history of Cumberland Island specifically. This is Ruckdeschel's story, so while there is an argument that the other side of the debate isn‘t as well represented, who needs them when you have Carol to steal the show?

Starting this for book club next week. Our book club is called Book ‘Em Danno and sometimes there is more laughter than discussion. Our motto: what happens in book club stays in book club!!

Carol Ruckdeschel single handedly fought developers, the Carnegies and the Rockefellers to get Cumberland Island, "the country's largest and most biologically diverse barrier island," declared as protected wilderness. Her love for the island wildlife and tenacity as a defender of their habitat continues today. Ruckdeschel doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of her as long as her beloved home is protected. #kickassheroines #SeasonsReadings2016
