so-soI blew through this book in one night mostly because it had a character concept I always enjoy (psychometer) but it didn't really deliver on in its potential for me. It played too hard into typical romance tropes, and at times felt more like a het romance than a queer one. Various bits just didn't hang together right, including Rory's psychometry and appraising abilities. Definitely not one to read on the heels of Jordan L Hawk or KJ Charles!

spellbound was made for me: gay, magical, an older MC who wants to protect the younger MC but also recognizes that he's strong and capable...yes please, will be reading the sequels soon. ✨
open water is excellent. poetic, real, deeply emotional, aching with young love. (content warning for systemic racism/white supremacy, particularly in policing.) 🌊

pickSPELLBOUND was a one-day read, as predicted. Allie Therin‘s prose is highly readable, her characters are interesting people, and her story calls to mind all sorts of other stuff I like (notably, Jenn Burke, Libba Bray, and the X-Men) without simply parroting its antecedents. It DOES read very much like a series opener and I didn‘t quite love it, but I had a great time with it nonetheless. Bring on book two.
It‘s cold and rainy, so broke out the spicy egg drop soup again. The shrimp and okra are hiding under the eggy layer.
SPELLBOUND has proven to be a super fast, moreish read. I might even hunker down and finish it tonight.
My breakfast book was new in every sense—I just started it AND I just bought it! The stars aligned perfectly: it‘s been on my radar for a while now, it‘s currently on for $1.99, and since I finished another book last night I was able to dive right in.
This is how I want to live, y‘all. Buy (or borrow) book; read book. Repeat.
pickReally, really enjoyed this book that is part romance, part fantasy and part historical fiction. And l say this from my position of non-romance reader.
Yes, there are all the exageration l dislivello in romances, but honestly the characters are so awesome and so real that l just wanted to know what happened to them.

Yes!!! Finished! And l really enjoyed it. It is a romance - not my favourite genre - but it's also a very good fantasy story. I mean a real fantasy story, not just an excuse to make the romance different.
I'm quite happy with my time. No way l can make to 24 hours even by Monday night, but l'm quite confidence l'll brake my standing record of 9 hours.

i could have read maybe one more hour, but when midnight approached, l just couldn't keep my eyes open.
