Dinosaurs Rediscovered: The Scientific Revolution in Paleontology
Dinosaurs Rediscovered: The Scientific Revolution in Paleontology | Michael J. Benton
In this fascinating and accessible overview, renowned paleontologist Michael J. Benton reveals how our understanding of dinosaurs is being transformed by recent fossil finds and new technology. Over the past twenty years, the study of dinosaurs has transformed into a true scientific discipline. New technologies have revealed secrets locked in prehistoric bones that no one could have previously predicted. We can now work out the color of dinosaurs, the force of their bite, their top speeds, and even how they cared for their young. Remarkable new fossil discoveriesgiant sauropod dinosaur skeletons in Patagonia, dinosaurs with feathers in China, and a tiny dinosaur tail in Burmese amberremain the lifeblood of modern paleobiology. Thanks to advances in technologies and methods, however, there has been a recent revolution in the scope of new information gleaned from such fossil finds. In Dinosaurs Rediscovered, leading paleontologist Michael J. Benton gathers together all the latest paleontological evidence, tracing the transformation of dinosaur study from its roots in antiquated natural history to an indisputably scientific field. Among other things, the book explores how dinosaur remains are found and excavated, and especially how paleontologists read the details of dinosaurs lives from their fossilstheir colors, their growth, and even whether we will ever be able to bring them back to life. Bentons account shows that, though extinct, dinosaurs are still very much a part of our world.

This book was recommended to me because I really enjoyed Steve Brusatte's The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs. A lot of this books is about the advancements made in paleontology, but there are plenty of new, exciting dino-data to entertain dinosaur enthusiasts. 4 💥💥💥💥

This is not surprising to me at all given I've read recent dinosaur stuff and have done so recently, but it's kinda restful to drop back into this old an obsession for a while.

Finally my book order arrived, I nearly lost all hope. 😅 The Macfarlane book is a beauty, I hope it lives up to my sky high expectations.

And please, dear and lovely new dinosaur treasure, please do not be a disappointment. I was one of the few who did not enjoy The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, so now I am wary..

Freespirit Lots of reading pleasure ahead for you? 5y
Briary @Freespirit Lots and lots 😁 My TBR is out of control, but oh well.. 5y

Not only was this a cool book with excellent dinosaur information, it was also a fascinating look at the methods behind paleontology research. I never imagined they used so many different methods. I was really surprised to see how much big data is used in researching my favorite fossils. It was an amazing look at the history and future of paleontology. This is a great companion piece to The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs! #nonfiction

RamsFan1963 I loved The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs. I will definitely stack the other book 6y
Geeklet @RamsFan1963 So far, it‘s good. I‘m nearly finished with the first chapter. The author makes the material very accessible but there are some charts that are a little difficult to understand. It‘s a very very minor complaint. 6y
Moony I love dinosaurs 🦕 6y
