“And it was good to be a little island. A part of the world and a world of its own.“
“And it was good to be a little island. A part of the world and a world of its own.“
Blurb- Image of cat asking fish to explain how the little island is apart of the land then to have faith in what he doesn't know- a good lesson that sometimes we need to have trust.
Published in 1947. A wonderfully written book about faith and the connections that everything in natures has with one another. The illustrations in this story were bright and showed the island in a way that made you want to visit it! The reflections in the water are something that stood out to me
This book has was made in 1946. I like the colors shown in the book; the blues and greens throughout the book show different colors of nature.
Aside from the illustrations, I like the layout of the story itself. The book is set up with illustration and poems about the island.
“Winter came
and the snow fell softly
like a great quiet secret in the night
cold and still.“
I enjoy this quote because of the descriptive language and imagery used.
A lovely story about life being bigger than you are but trusting in the process. This book was written about the small islands where Brown had a home in Maine. Leonard Weisgard's beautiful paintings are a must see. ❤ #BBRC #LetterL

This book is about 4 seasons and it is described by the island that is involved in them. Great illustrations.
This can be great for small children, especially because of the colorful pictures
This book is about an island in the ocean and what is like living there throughout the seasons and how the animals live on it. The illustrations are great and very colorful.
The brush strokes and other ways of illustrating are really beautiful. I appreciate the cooler colors with pops of color.
This is an older Caldecott winner, but still a classic. Also, Margaret Wise Brown is an author that future students should know & appreciate. The words do an excellent job painting the pictures in itself.
“There was a little island in the ocean. Around it the winds blew and the birds flew and the tides rose and fell on the shore.”
I think the conversation between the car and the island might be hard for kids to grasp. Also it‘s kind of weird and I don‘t think kids would like it.
The illustrations match the descriptions perfectly. The language is written in uncommon sentence structure which is really great for kids. The conversations are slightly confusing for kids though.
This book is so cute to show kids the different animals and foods that live and change when summer comes!
Beautiful depiction of interdependence and faith. peaceful.

Nights and days came and passed
And summer and winter
and the sun and the wind
and the rain.
And it was good to be a little Island.
A part of the world
and a world of its own
all surrounded by the bright blue sea.
-Margaret Wise Brown, probably my most favorite quote from a picture book, ever.
