Thanks to @kspenmoll I was asked to pick my top 6 of the last 6 months. Poet X was a reread and it still delivered. 3 non-fiction, 3 fiction.

Thank you @Suet624 ! These arrived a week ago but I was too sick to open the package 😂
Finished this a week ago and still feel the effects. Badkhen spends a year traveling with the Fulani and their herd of cattle as they wait for rain. Climate change, war planes overhead, traditions slowly being lost, all dropped into the text while you travel alongside the nomads and the author. The book is lyrical, dense, dusty and plodding. I must find more of her work. This book won‘t be for everyone, but I loved it.
I‘m on page 32 and I‘ve had to look up almost 20 words. I didn‘t know I had such a limited vocabulary.
I've started compiling my end of year reading wrap ups. First is my #Africa2016 project. I read 37 books set in 20 countries; my top five are pictured. Follow the link for more! https://readingenvy.blogspot.com/2016/12/2016-reading-wrap-up-africa2016.html #readdiversebooks
First book completed for #24in48 Readathon! Loved the writing and insights into the Fulani people - also I've kept track of #thrumspotting instances for years in Twitter so had to share this one!
I was going to return this to the library unread but she pulled me in!
Badkhen goes to live w/the Fulani people, a group of nomadic cattle herders that trek across Mali. It discusses their history & lifestyle, but it's also a profound look at cultural empathy. Badkhen builds friendships, learns their language & ways, & approaches their journey w/emotional intimacy. 🐂 #ReadWomen
