This is a mock memoir, written from the perspective of a 40 year old Bret Easton Ellis as he works through feelings about his previous books and his deceased father, told as a horror story homage to Stephen King — so the ghosts and demons are literal as well as figurative. It sounds like a lot, but I loved it and couldn‘t wait to find out what would happen next. I thought this was a brilliant departure for Ellis.

I was confused at first as I didn‘t know the author and his previous works or past. I don‘t like him & neither does the dog. I trust the dog. The horror is well done. Is he just an old drug addict or is it a demon/haunting?

This book legit frightened me...just last night. Had me fully believing in the supernatural: things were cracking, my place was squeaking, weird crackling sounds; I‘m even (pretty sure?) some kind of breathing sound?? Now I‘m finished with it, thank goodness.

This novel—it‘s brilliant though. In addition to being scary: it‘s like if Ellis was to write a book that was a parody of himself, but it‘s a parody of THAT. Had me cracking up to no end.

For an author whose usual novels are steeped in cynicism and keeping emotions at arm's length- this one is a departure: a fictionalized Ellis tries (somewhat ineptly) to become a better dad to his estranged children in the face of a series of bizarre supernatural events. Written both as an attempt by BEE to understand his own difficult relationship with his father, and as a homage to Stephen King novels #Fathers #Junebookbugs @RealLifeReading

3.5 stars. This book is not like American Psycho, and that's a good thing. If you're looking for more of the same from B.E.E. look elsewhere. Lunar Park is not that. It's sad, it's funny, it's a ghost story (literal and metaphorical). It's about piecing together and losing a grip on family. I enjoyed it a lot, but if you're a die hard for Ellis' nihilism via over the top hedonism and ultra graphic violence, this might not be for you.

This was recommended to me by a friend, so I finished this but it was not my cup of tea... I've never been a horror and this definitely didn't change my mind! Does anyone have any ideas of things that would??? #didntlikeitstillfinished #marchintoreading

Your basic Ellis fair--drugs, white guys with daddy issues, people being awful--with the added bonus of watching said awful white guy fight an evil Furby.
