Bathsheba: Reluctant Beauty | Angela Hunt
5 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
A Vivid and Moving Portrait of a Reluctant Queen After sending his army to besiege another king's capital, King David forces himself on Bathsheba, a loyal soldier's wife. When her resulting pregnancy forces the king to murder her husband and add her to his harem, Bathsheba struggles to protect her son while dealing with the effects of a dark prophecy and deadly curse on the king's household. Combining historical facts with detailed fiction, Angela Hunt paints a realistic portrait of the beautiful woman who struggled to survive the dire results of divine judgment on a king with a divided heart.

Pickpick

I quite enjoyed the retelling of Bathsheba‘s story. Angela Hunt doesn‘t pull any punches on this one. She portrays the ugliness without being indelicate. My only complaint is there a phrase she uses over and over again to the point that you cannot believe the characters would speak that way. It takes a little away from the realism, but overall a great book.

Just finished the second book in this series about beautiful women of the Bible. I did enjoyed this book. There is so much to learn from David's life. This book, while through the eyes and point of view of Bathsheba, covered the span of David's life from the point of meeting Bathsheba to his death. I do feel like the author took more liberties in writing this book compared to Esther. But, she does explain her choices at the end of the novel.

Daisey This series looks interesting! 6y
CindyRene @Daisey I've enjoyed gaining new perspectives of what it may have been like for these women we read about in the Bible. Check it out. I hope you like it 😁 6y

CindyRene @thereadingowlvina I just finished Esther last month. I loved it! It gave me a glimpse of what having and serving a king is like. That's important gleaning when I say I serve a Risen King. 6y
