The cover on this book is terrible and doesn't seem to go with the blurb on the back, but I'm giving it a go anyway as it was an Amazon freebie and sounds like it could be good.

In my opinion, the best character name is not just one character, but a whole family name. The Callaway family are one of my favourites because their name represents how amazing their family is. It's big, but they are always supporting each other, and living up to the Callaway name! #day19 #booktober #bestcharactername

I felt like all the issues got resolved too easily. I liked the characters and at some point I might read book 2, because I'm interested in the mystery they need to solve. The B&N read outs are giving me a chance to try authors I haven't read before, which is nice.

3.5/5 stars. I discovered this book since it was the serial read this month on Nook. It was an enjoyable and sweet, if somewhat predictable, romance with a touch of mystery. I probably would have given it four stars, but the ending felt rushed. I'll likely continue on with the series, though, as there is a storyline that remains unresolved (involving arson and a missing beloved teacher) which should be a major plot point in the next book.

Ummm. It was free through B&N readouts, and since it was just a chapter a day I was able to get through it. But it was very hokey and predictable and not my kind of thing at all. I should have gone with my gut when I didn't like the cover. If the story is going to be so flat, couldn't there at least be some hot love scenes? 😂

Angela_AVT I find many of B Freethy's books to be flat like you mentioned. :( 8y
sprainedbrain @Angela_AVT This was my first of hers... Probably my last too. 😐 8y
Angela_AVT 😔 Sad. But there are so many other books in the world. The last quick and easy romance (awesomely written and very engaging) I read was Anything But Love by Abigail Strom. If you're looking for something. :) 8y
Angela_AVT Oh... Hah... I see that you saw it on litsy. 😄 8y
sprainedbrain @Angela_AVT 😃 yes thanks! I do believe I will check that one out. 8y

I was going to pass on this month's B&N Serial Read: On the surface it doesn't look like my kind of romance novel; but it actually has some decent reviews; I need something to alternate w/a graphically violent mystery I'm reading, and it's free... So we'll see!

LitHousewife Free is good. No harm if it doesn't work out.😊 8y

Not my usual kind of thing, and the cover art does not appeal to me at all, but it's free this month on B&N readouts. First 2 chapters have been enough to keep me coming back. 😃

I was so excited when I learned that she was publishing this series in print! I love the Callaway series! On a Night Like This is the perfect beginning to a series about how family is one of the most important things in the world!
