Eva's life is not her own. She is a creation, an abominationan echo. She was made by the Weavers as a copy of someone else, expected to replace a girl named Amarra, her "other," if she ever died. Eva spends every day studying that girl from far away, learning what Amarra does, what she eats, what it's like to kiss her boyfriend, Ray. So when Amarra is killed in a car crash, Eva should be ready. But sixteen years of studying never prepared her for this. Now she must abandon everything and everyone she's ever knownthe guardians who raised her, the boy she's forbidden to loveto move to India and convince the world that Amarra is still alive. What Eva finds is a grief-stricken family; parents unsure how to handle this echo they thought they wanted; and Ray, who knew every detail, every contour of Amarra. And when Eva is unexpectedly dealt a fatal blow that will change her existence forever, she is forced to choose: Stay and live out her years as a copy or leave and risk it all for the freedom to be an original. To be Eva. From debut novelist Sangu Mandanna comes the dazzling story of a girl who was always told what she had to beuntil she found the strength to decide for herself.

"She falls and starts to howl. Her father leans down and kisses her knee and wheedles a laugh out of her. And for no reason at all it makes me think of the Weaver who made me. Of how he will never pick me up when I fall.
I want to be human so badly it hurts."

There's a 12-year-old whose mom hangs out at my yarn shop who always has a book. I started talking books with her and offered to lend her some. Here were the three I had let her borrow, and she finished them in under a week. I then gave her 6 more.

LauraBrook Wow, what a speed reader she is! And great choices for her too. Any chance she'll join Litsy? 😊 7y
silentrequiem @LauraBrook Probably not. I don't think she has a phone. I think she's on Goodreads, though. I'll ask her next time I see her. It's been a week and a half because my life has been crazy. 7y
silentrequiem @LauraBrook She didn't really like The Lost Girl. Which killed me a bit. 😣 But she LOVED The Hate U Give! 7y

Day 19 #SilhouettesOnCovers I read this a couple of years ago and I liked it. it was interesting and brought up many questions about humanity. There were a few too many questions but it was solid. I gave this a 3.5/5. #SeasondReadings2016 @RealLifeReading

jmtrivera I liked that one a lot. Wanted the story to continue. 8y
Ruri_kaichou @jmtrivera I think I would have liked it more if it was the first of a series. This world is so interesting! 8y
jmtrivera @ruri_kaichou I've often wondered if it was intended to be, but the author never got the second one approved by a publisher or something. 8y
Ruri_kaichou @jmtrivera it could be. Shame 😦 8y

The Lost Girl took its time to build its world and story, but worked itself up into a frenzied, breakneck pace. It's such a bittersweet story; highly recommended!
