Foreign to Familiar is a splendidly written, well-researched work on cultures. Anyone traveling abroad should not leave home without this valuable resource! I highly recommend it as required reading for cross-cultural workers. Sarah Lanier's love and sensitivity for people of all nations will touch your heart. This book creates within us a greater appreciation for our extended families around the world and an increased desire to better serve them. - Dr. Kingsley A. Fletcher President, Hope for Africa, Inc. Great short read to help learn more about how different cultures react in different ways. Explained more of the background to things like “Island Time” or how many Americans (myself included) are obsessed with time management and efficiency. Reading this helped me think more about my own culture and gain understanding and respect for other cultures I don‘t personally understand.

This book is reminding me of all the things I loved about being in a developing country and some of the things that make me laugh...like here, her hostess thinks she would be lonely in a room by herself when that's exactly what we tend to want as Americans

Texasblues There are so many things that we take for granted that would be considered, if not miraculous, at least a sign of great wealth. 9y
