The Shiva Trilogy
The Shiva Trilogy: Omnibus | Amish Tripathi
Today, Shiva is a god. But four thousand years ago, he was just a man. 1900 BC: the once-proud Suryavanshi rulers of the Meluha Empire are in dire peril. The empire's primary river, the Saraswati, is slowly drying up. There are devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of the Chandravanshis - and to make matters worse, the Chandravanshis appear to have allied with the Nagas, an ostracised race of deformed humans with astonishing martial skills. The only hope for the Suryavanshis is an ancient prophecy: when evil reaches epic proportions and all seems lost, a hero will emerge . . .

What is most intriguing about this book is the depiction of a powerful deity, Lord Shiva, in the most human way possible. It offers a new perspective to the Hindu mythology and how indeed the greatness of such a being eventually led him to be worshipped through time immemorial.
Depicting gods in the character of humans to show the struggles they go through and become the person we imagine they might be was a wonderful experience to read.

Great mythological fiction...
One strong quote from the book: " There's nothing universal. Good and bad are two sides of the same coin, it all depends on the perspective you choose to see"...
