#TBRtemptation post 1! In July 1916, a wave of shark attacks along the Jersey Shore was terrorizing enough to replace WWI in the headlines and inspire one of publishing's and film's most iconic books and horror films. In 12 days, 4 swimmers were killed and others came close. The author provides narrative recounting and cutting-edge science to makes sense of it all. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
There aren't any #landmarks as such to my town's most famous event: in July of 1916, a shark swam up Matawan Creek and attacked Lester Stillwell. The friends he was swimming with ran to Main Street shouting about it and a bunch of men ran to the creek to see what was happening. Stanley Fisher gave his life trying to save Lester. Both are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, the most haunted cemetery in NJ. @Clwojick
