Mehso-so

I have to be honest, I‘m not entirely sure what to make of this book. The story unfolds in two places—first in a land where fairy tales are real & the second France during WWII—& follows a young man banished from the only home he‘s ever known. He spends his life trying to get back home to the woman he loves. Sections of the book were luminous & beautifully written & others left me shaking my head in confusion. Ok but not great.

Today‘s book is another ARC that has languished on my bookshelves far too long. This one is from 2019, likely picked up at BEA. It‘s a French novel in translation. I know nothing about it and I have no idea what to expect.

I‘m sorry to say, I did not get past the second chapter of this confusing, muddled story. The description intrigued me, but the two opening chapters were so unconnected and rambling that I could not connect. This is a translation of a French book that has received high praise, and Goodreads reviews are mixed. Just not for me.

#currentlyreading "Le livre de Perle" from Timothée de Fombelle. After hearing so much good reviews, I was really curious to try his writing style. A french author, well known here in France for his work in children and YA books. One of it is so multi-generational that it was published in an adult collection and a children collection from the same editor. For what I read so far, I can say reviews were rights. A real pleasure to read!

Zurück von einer Reise mit mehr Koffern als eine Frau je braucht. Jetzt bette ich mein Haupt zur Ruhe, um mich wieder in einen Traum zu flüchten, die letzten Feen dieser Zeit zu finden.
