Her
Her: A Novel | Harriet Lane
17 posts | 23 read | 23 to read
You don't remember her--but she remembers you. Two different women; two different worlds. On the face of it, Emma and Nina have very little in common. Isolated and exhausted by early motherhood, Emma finds her confidence is fading fast. Nina is sophisticated and assured, a successful artist who seems to have it all under control. And yet, when the two women meet, they are irresistibly drawn to each other. As the friendship develops, as Emma gratefully invites Nina into her life, it emerges that someone is playing games-and the stakes could not be higher. What, exactly, does Nina see in Emma? What does she want? And how far will she go in pursuit of it? A gripping novel about friendship and identity, about the wild hopes and worst fears of parenthood, about the small and easily forgotten moments that come to define a life, Her is unputdownable-compelling and hauntingly discomfiting.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I don‘t even know what I just read. So slow and boring. No real storyline. I just wasn‘t a fan of this one, but glad I finally got to it since it‘s been on my TBR forever. The alternating storylines just don‘t work when you don‘t care about the characters.

BkClubCare Cat seems to agree with you. 2y

Bailedbailed

So the Goodreads reviews were correct in my opinion. This was a boring read. I thought I would still finish in order to find out what happened years ago between the two main characters but I‘m zoning out too much. The book flips between the two perspectives and repeats the same boring scenes. Just not for me. Does this still count as me completing my #bookspin ? This is also a #MarchUnshelfing read.

TheAromaofBooks Totally counts!! The goal is to get books of the shelf/list, so even though it's sad when that method involves realizing the book isn't for you, it's still progress! 😁 4y

I‘m a little behind on posts since I‘ve been getting used to working from home due to Coronavirus, but I started my #bookspin yesterday. Excited to get this off the shelf. I hope it‘s a stud and not a dud🤞

My #Bookspin pick! I have had this for at least 4 years (maybe 5). I looked up reviews just now on Goodreads and they were not very kind, but I‘m excited to finally take this off the shelf, blow off some dust, and read!

TheAromaofBooks Good luck - and remember, even bails count if it gets really bad 😂 4y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks thank you! It would be such a shame though if I‘ve waited this long and it‘s not good lol 4y
TheAromaofBooks Worst-case scenario: You end up with bookshelf space for a new book 😁 4y

Mehso-so

Eh. I‘m grateful it was a quick read. Emma was kind of irritating, and I expected a much more dramatic reveal at the end. I thought the plot twist was tepid, and the writing hinted at something much bigger lurking. I also found it strange how quickly the families connected.

I guess Dieter is as irritated by Emma as I am. She clawed through 3 pages 😑

Pickpick

The big mystery of how Nina and Emma know each other is a good one. It was easy to guess at their shared past, but the truth was much more sinister, as was the ending. A wonderful, clever read, Lane's Her is a book I would definitely recommend.
Note: a little bit of a slow start, but worth it.

ValerieAndBooks This color is so relaxing and soothing! Do you have any rooms painted in it? 7y
KarenUK @ValerieAndBooks My whole house is painted in shades of very pale turquoise, blues and greens.... Never used much wall color before I lived in FL but it kinda works here! 🌴😎💙 (edited) 7y

This absolutely has to be the worst reason to seek "revenge" on another human being!

Texreader Clearly a book to be avoided. Thanks for saving us the time and energy! 7y
MrsV I don't necessarily want to discourage anyone from reading it, but I wouldn't recommend it either! ☺️😜 7y

Don't be fooled by the gushy blurbs, this book isn't a thriller. This is a book about people who look at rooms and notice everything in those rooms.

Not only is it tedious and boring, but you have to read each dull chapter twice (from each narrator's perspective)

Seriously, skip it.

Megabooks Removed from TBR. I hate redundancy! 8y

The blurbs say this book is fast paced and thrilling... So far 70 pages in and it's really boring.
