The Antelope Wife | 
pickThe Antelope Woman character is haunting. Dreams and omens leak into my life as I was reading this. The story is told in pieces by several characters‘ point of view. There is a family tree in the first pages that helps. I like Almost Soup. I bet you will, too. The urban setting feels close and gritty. The rez, open. Paraphrase: This is “a new book partly made from the old book,” The Antelope Wife. I haven‘t read the old one. This one is great.
panThe story was interesting but I just could not get into it. The writing was so fragmented I had to piece together who was talking, all the characters and how they were connected and when something was happening. It was almost as bad as season 2 of Westworld.
pickJust like the tapestry woven above, this novel has many threads but at its core is a family saga with a slight magical edge. It is by turns funny, heartbreaking, and profound.
My spirit animal is the African Greater Kudu, because they are quite tall (which I can relate to) and majestic (which I can't). Thanks for #payingitforward @CoffeeCatsBooks!
Who knows any given day what season it will be in STL. 9°F now; 60s last week. Though as I've mentioned before, I'm a masochist and actually love #dreamingofacolderclimate when it's already cold outside, and Louise Erdrich is often my fix. Next up is The Antelope Wife (so weird that I've recently seen it being republished as Antelope Woman 🤔). I have no idea how or if extreme winter will manifest itself here, but I'll find out! #ReadJanuary

Enjoying a little Native American literature on a cloudy, cool Saturday. Beautiful and lyrical, though I am not yet sure what exactly is going on in this story. Erdrich has me hooked.
pickIt took me longer than I expected given it's a pretty short book but not a word is wasted. Warrants a reread for sure. Magical realism plus Native American culture plus unclear narration - confusing at times but totally worth the effort.
