pickI usually love Newbery books anyway because they tend to tug at my heartstrings, but I love that I actually learned some history from this one. Not just textbook history, but real down-to-earth cultural history. Plus, this quote: “I want to tell them that almost dying is awfully easy. It‘s the living that‘s hard.” Sounds awfully familiar to my favorite quote from #hamilton ! ❤️❤️❤️ Now to find a big Italian family to adopt me...🤔

Weeding through my shelves to make room for new books that can't fit. Found some gems from my younger days that I wanna share ✨ I think I read this when I was a loser jr high student and I LOOOOVED it 😭😭😭😭 great book about an Italian American girl from the 50s, with memorable characters & writing that made me feel like I was part of the book.
