Orson Scott Card offers a Christmas gift to his millions of fans with A War of Gifts, a short novel set during Ender Wiggin's first years at the Battle School where it is forbidden to celebrate religious holidays. The children come from many nations, many religions; while they are being trained for war, religious conflict between them is not on the curriculum. But Dink Meeker, one of the older students, doesn't see it that way. He thinks that giving gifts isn't exactly a religious observation, and on Sinterklaas Day he tucks a present into another student's shoe. This small act of rebellion sets off a battle royal between the students and the staff, but some surprising alliances form when Ender comes up against a new student, Zeck Morgan. The War over Santa Claus will force everyone to make a choice.

OSC is a horrible human being but I really like these books and already paid for them long before I knew he was a horrible human being. Hoping to finish the Ender Verse this year.

TheAnitaAlvarez I had such a hard time with Ender‘s Game (sexism, racism, and xenophobia tend to put me off) that I‘ve never been able to pick up any of his books. 7y
ThatNerdyBookwyrm @TheAnitaAlvarez It‘s been so long since I‘ve read Ender‘s Game itself but it‘s kind of the point of the books - everyone is a piece of shit fighting for piece of shit values. Kind of like Orson himself. Like, they‘re using 6 year olds (okay, they‘re 12, but still) to fight wars. You can‘t really get much lower than that. (edited) 7y

This novella will give you the feels and make you fall even more in love with Ender (not romantically since he's a kid, but his character and love for others is amazing). 💚

Toddler nap time reading for when he'll only nap if we snuggle. I'd continue reading The Immortals but that's a thick hardcover and would likely hurt if I dropped that on my and/or the toddlers face! 😝

This one is much smaller...and safer!
