Virgil Flowers will have to watch his back--and his mouth--as he investigates a college culture war turned deadly in the latest thriller from #1 New York Times-bestseller John Sandford. At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of PC culture. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then someone winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate . . . and he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy. Among this group of wildly impassioned, diametrically opposed zealots lurks a killer, and it will be up to Virgil to sort the murderer from the mere maniacs.

Series completed! I think Sandford ended it at the right time. This latest book suffered from being a soley urban experience, none of the backcountry excursions filled with local colour. Virgil is well on his way to a happy ending and that meant that the hijinks around prospective partners seen in the earlier books were also absent. I enjoyed seeing the the 'thugs' again, but missed Johnson Johnson. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? There was something a bit perfunctory about the mystery, sort of like reading a case file, there were twists, but even the climax didn't feel as high octane as previous entries. That and I clocked the murderer early. I gotta say, didn't love the casual objectification of women followed by a moralizing conclusion that saw dire consequences for the three new adults experimenting with sex and drugs. (edited) 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/3 The main character is the son of a preacher but he's also 'that fuckin Flowers' - now reformed womanizer prudishly advising a young lady on her future. It's a tough combo for the reader to swallow. Given where this series went at its darkest I don't think I'm up for reading Sandford's grittier series. The search for likeable detective stories continues...maybe it's time for another Miss Marple...🤔 3mo

Yay!! I‘m so happy! 👏👏I‘ve found another mystery/thriller/crime writer that is really good! I know this author has written a lot of books but I‘ve completely missed him until now! Well written, engaging, no plot holes or eye roll moments. Kept me guessing until the end. Just what you want in a mystery! I will definitely be reading more John Sandford.

The question I have is what's going to happen as I progress through the book? It's a mystery book so I can only imagine the events that could occur.

I just started this book and so far ( sorry for the spoiler) someone has died already so very nerve racking. But it also got me a bit more interested since this is a mystery type of book, so it was expected for something crazy to happen. I think a connection I could make is pretty much a lot of murders that happen in this world. Very mysterious of course but I think when I happens the part people usually want to hear about most is what happened.

This is a Virgil Flowers novel. Virgil is called in to work the murder of a professor killed in the library. The investigation leads in many directions. Is it the daughter, the estranged wife , the ex- wife, or a stranger? Virgil calls in families from the usual suspects, shake, Jenkins, and Capslock. Highly recommend.

That Fuckin Flowers! Another hit in the series with book number 12, I loved it. Had them all in it Davenport, Capslock and Weather. Great storyline aswell. Love the humour Sandford brings to a story.

I 💜💜💜this book!!! Virgil F&@“ing Flowers must find the killer of an uber rich doctor on a college campus. He goes from no leads to chasing his tale. The usual banter and humor is present, with some well known supporting characters. Another win for Mr. Sandford. 😎

suzie.reads My favourite author ❤ Can't wait to read this waiting for my library to get it. Still prefer Davenport though lol 5y

New book from one of my favorite authors. I prefer the Lucas Davenport novels, but I‘ll take Virgil Flowers in a pinch.
