*Sigh* I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn‘t get into it. It felt contrived, to me. But in all fairness, maybe it‘s just not my thing, and someone else could think it‘s amazing! To each their own š.

Lisa Barr can write but I just couldnā€t connect with the main character or believe many (any?) of the plot contrivances. Sure, itā€s about a woman whose ā€perfectā€¯ life has crumbled and is tryin to reclaim her sexuality and her art but it was repetitive and unbelievable. Read in a day and a nice palate cleanser after all things Gilead. I enjoyed all the art references, especially the Rodin museum that I have been to and love. It was a bit more erotic than I was expecting but š¤·š¸»ā€¨ā™€ļø¸wouldn‘t spend money for it, thank god for the library

It‘s not quite the light hearted break I thought it would be after leaving Gilead but I will be done it in a day. Praise Be the glorious last blast of summer weather in Southern Ontario

August 5, 2019 Hey everybody! Hope you are having a fine chill Monday ( unless you are working ). I am so happy because I am more than halfway through the book. It has been a "interesting" time reading so far. But whenever I choose a book, especially lately, it hasnt been too positive. I NEVER expect to come across erotic moments but that has been the case.

Marilyncjackson I have not read any books by the author you have tagged. As far as books ever I have read a ton, last month I read The Cat Who Could Read Backwards and that was it. None of the other books I started kept me interested. This month I am trying to read Dark Alchemy. 5y

Marilyncjackson @lilpumpkin2.0 all types but I prefer fiction. I like mystery, romance, fantasy, and gothic the most. I do not like sci-fi very much. 5y

Marilyncjackson @lilpumpkin2.0 so sorry I did not answer this earlier I think I missed it my busy week. If you want mystery and fantasy it is usually an urban fantasy. That means it will more than likely be contemporary setting with magic and paranormal. Do you want there to be erotic moments or to stay away from that for the most part? 5y

Marilyncjackson @lilpumpkin2.0 Ok here are a couple of urban fantasy‘s I suggest they are series: number one in my list is Jim Butcher‘s Dresden Files. It is fun, it is dark, and it reminds me of classic Noir with magic. Second would be Seanan Macguire books. I like the October Day series better than InCryptid, but I have been told I don‘t know what I am talking about. 5y

Marilyncjackson @lilpumpkin2.0 continuing on: there is Alex Bledsoe‘s Tufa books they start with the Hum and the Shiver I think they are beautiful and love them. They don‘t follow the same people but they follow the same area (I can‘t tell you more or I will give away a lot). And then Debora Blake‘s Babba Yagga Serise that starts with Wickedly Dangerous. 5y

Marilyncjackson They are adult books so sex does pop up but it is not erotica and doesn‘t last long. The main plot in these is a mystery except the Hum and the Shiver that is more a mystery about the place and if the MC will adjust back to living there. Full disclosure I am friends with some of these authors on various platforms and talk to them, but I found them through their books. (I found the books through my librarian). 5y

August 2, 2019 Sorry for the gap of time. I have been busy during the summer! Summer?!! Yes, even when it is summer im busy... Got a head start on this book. First book i read by Barr. She is a good author but what i have read so far does make it that much different from other books I have read.

. It was a fast entertaining read that kept me flipping the pages till the very end. Did it live up to the hype that so many have labeled this read? For me not so much. Like I said I found The Unbreakables entertaining, but I also found it unbelievable. I couldn‘t connect with any of the characters. I couldn‘t step inside the book and see myself doing the things the main character did while dealing with a life changing situation. I#
