5 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
The Rosewater Insurrection continues the award-winning, cutting edge Wormwood trilogy, set in Nigeria, by one of science fiction's most engaging new voices. All is quiet in the city of Rosewater as it expands on the back of the gargantuan alien Wormwood. Those who know the truth of the invasion keep the secret. The government agent Aminat, the lover of the retired sensitive Kaaro, is at the forefront of the cold, silent conflict. She must capture a woman who is the key to the survival of the human race. But Aminat is stymied by the machinations of the Mayor of Rosewater and the emergence of an old enemy of Wormwood... Tade Thompson's innovative, genre-bending, Afrofuturist series, the Wormwood Trilogy, is perfect for fans of Jeff Vandermeer, N. K. Jemisin, William Gibson, and Ann Leckie. Part 2 of this Sci-fi invasion trilogy set in Nigeria, 2067. Thompson‘s novel is so gloriously African-centric that America has annexed itself from the rest of the world so there‘s no chance of them “saving the day” or some other “world-police” nonsense. Like book one, wild ideas pack this novel. There‘s action, violence, body horror, aliens and espionage, but this time, none of the chronological jumps that made book one so confusing.

Jari-chan I love this trilogy! Glad you like the books as well. 10mo
The_Book_Ninja @Jari-chan I do! Hope the last part is as good as the previous ones 10mo

Finally the second book has been translated to German as well! I've been waiting for so long, but it sure was worth it. Since we're now familiar with the characters and the setting, we're getting right into the story. Yes, one must've read book one first. If you did and enjoyed it, go ahead - I thought the second book was even better than the first one. And it's waiting for part three... Publishing date: 2023 😢

Second book of the trilogy. I liked this (only slightly) less than the first book, partially because it felt all over the place. But it was exciting to be back in Thompson‘s rich world, and learning more about the alien presence that has taken up residence in Rosewater. I can‘t wait to see how it all ends!
