More Teacher Misery
More Teacher Misery: Nutjob Teachers, Torturous Training, & Even More Bullshit | Jane Morris
3 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
More Teacher Misery is the second volume in the Teacher Misery series! In More Teacher Misery Morris tackles even more of the hilarious, unbelievable and completely absurd experiences of teachers around the country. With topics such as pointless professional development where the author learned how to make bird noises, insanely incompetent teachers who make the good ones look bad, the shit parades that are parent conferences, lack of discipline even for kids who attack people with weapons, outrageous parent requests such as checking the size and color of a teenager

I really enjoyed reading this, which may be surprising to some. Why in the world would I WANT to read about how hard it is to be a teacher?? Because it makes me realize that I am not crazy, and other teachers totally get it. The above quote nails why I am still teaching at all. It‘s not a profession that is easy to leave- at the end of every day, there are 160 kids depending on me, 99% of whom I really do like. 👇👇👇

AmberWB The author also points out that while many may see her book as overly negative, her books are her outlet. She has to put the negative stuff SOMEWHERE or it will eat away at her soul. I get it, I totally get it. That‘s why I have my 2-3 core teacher bffs who I can rant about ANYTHING with, and there is no judgement. They get the same from me. I wish non-teachers would read this, so they could get some insight into what teaching and education 👇👇 6y
AmberWB ...has become. However, most would simply not believe what they are reading. 6y

“If you can‘t fix it on your own, it ain‘t getting fixed, so learn to ignore it as much as you can.”

As someone who is always wanting to “fix” things, this may be one of the hardest lessons I‘ve had to try and learn in 14 years of teaching.

Caroline2 And this is why I got out of teaching! The way things were never dealt with totally did me in!!! 😔 6y
AmberWB @Caroline2 I hear you. I struggle with it every day. But, 14 years, anti-depressants and anti- anxiety meds, and realizing that I have outlasted every administrator and principal we‘ve had in our building has helped. 😁 6y

Erinreadsthebooks @AmberWB Yep, outlasting the admin and the 'new fad' cycles that come along every third-ish year is a victory in itself. That's when you start the "this too shall pass" motto and continue to focus on kids. Teaching is a hard, hard, hard job! 6y

Snow day! It‘s like someone knew that I needed more time to recover from vacation! I am pretty sure it is more Disney magic at work. 😊
