“It would be a pleasure to work for you, Pinky.”
I love the way the illustrations blend into the white of the page. It creates a light and inspiring feel for the story.

The plot of this story is great for young children to hear and understand. This story shares a little girls ambition to help provide for her family, which isn‘t extremely common in our day in age.
“That‘s nothing but a mangy old hound dog.”
“Certainly not! He is my fur-faced fluffenbarker.”
The words throughout the book are fun to say and children would love them.
Traditional
Nelly May Has Her Say is written by Cynthia DeFlice and illustrated by Henry Cole. It was published in 2013. The setting took place in Nelly May Nimble‘s tiny cottage with her big family until she went on to move to a Lord‘s home. The characters include Nelly May and Lord Pinkwinkle. I would use this in my room because it is a cute story with fun words.
I loved this book! It‘s silly and fun but still teachable. It teaches different words for same things and teaches how to stick up for yourself and what makes you comfortable and how to compromise.

Storyline: A young girl decides she is old enough to work for herself. She works for a bossy man who has odd names for everything. After a confrontation they learn to compromise.
“‘Well, my dear old nursery used to call me Pinky...‘ Lord Pinkwinkle said. Nelly May smiled. ‘It would be my pleasure to work for you, Pinky.‘”
This would be a good humorous book to read to students when talking about the importance of working hard and being humble.
Genre: Traditional Literature
I really enjoyed this book‘s sense of humor with the names that Lord Pinkwinkle comes up with. The book starts out with Nelly May working for Lord Pinkwinkle who somewhat “bullies” and takes advantage of her. By the end of the book, he begins to treat Nelly May with a lot more respect and appreciation as he realizes she saved his house.
“Nelly May smiled. ‘It would be my pleasure to work for you, pinky.‘”
I love this story because it is completely original. It is goofy yet there is a message. I like the ending when the master comes back to her and asks for her to come back because of her hard working qualities.
This is an original, creative story written by Cynthia DeFelice. It was published by Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers in 2013. It is about a girl who is hard working and obedient. However, her master is complicated and makes things difficult on her. She proves her dedication and he realizes that he needs her.
“I would call it your house ... but i‘ll lay odds that‘s not the right answer”
I found it hilarious when Nelly May, a sweet young girl, begins to get sassy with Lord Pinkwinkle!
Rather ridiculous the names he made her memorize! However, the pictures were fun to look at!
Published in 2013 and illustrated by Henry Cole, this story is supported by the illustrations detail and use of color to show the story‘s meaning and emotion. I‘d say the illustrations are true to the culture represented when showing a poorer and richer side, but from a past time! However, I was a little disappointed with the pages sticking together often because I happened to miss a few while reading :(
