Handbook for a Post-Roe America
Handbook for a Post-Roe America | Robin Marty
10 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
The end of Roe v. Wade is coming. How will you prepare? Handbook for a Post-Roe America is a comprehensive and user-friendly manual for understanding and preparing for the looming changes to reproductive rights law, and getting the healthcare you needby any means necessary. Activist and writer Robin Marty guides readers through various worst-case scenarios of a post-Roe America, and offers ways to fight back, including: how to acquire financial support, how to use existing networks and create new ones, and how to, when required, work outside existing legal systems. She details how to plan for your own emergencies, how to start organizing now, what to know about self-managed abortion care with pills and/or herbs, and how to avoid surveillance. The only guidebook of its kind, Handbook for a Post-Roe America includes an extensive, detailed resource guide for all pregnant people (whether cis, trans, or non-binary) of clinics, action groups, abortion funds, and practical support groups in each state, so wherever you live, you can get involved. With a newly right-wing Supreme Court and a Republican Senate, Roe is under threat. Robin Marty observes: "When we say abortion will be illegal in half the states in the nation, we are no longer talking about some hypothetical futurewe are talking about just years down the road. We have to act now to secure what access remains, shore up the networks supporting those who need care, and decide what risks we are willing to take to ensure that any person who wants a termination can still end that pregnancywith or without the government's permission."

A book for Americans who are scared today to order immediately.
I have my copy at home but I am out hiking and doom scrolling tonight. I hope tomorrow I will have no service so I can enjoy nature for a bit.

"These tactics are not meant for everyone. They are meant for those who have the privilege,,,"

I am privileged, living in a Blue state and keeping my job so far through this pandemic.

These tactics are meant for me.

I hate that I have to have this book; I didn‘t want to read it. But it wasn‘t as depressing as I thought it would be—it‘s actually quite empowering. Filled with valuable information and great resources. Gear up, armor up. Together we fight for all; together we win.

This is fantastic in terms breaking down what the average citizen can do if Roe v. Wade is overturned, both to fight for abortion rights at a state and local level, and in terms of civil disobedience. Every pro-choice household should own a copy.

“While Roe and the cases that preceded it made birth control and abortion legal, they did nothing to curtail the coercive power our government wields over the bodies of those who can give birth.”

I hate that I felt the need to own this book, I hate that I felt the need to buy two more, including one for my daughter, I hate that it‘s 2019 and this is a true concern in America. It feels like I‘m living a dystopian future and it makes me incredibly sad.😢

Emilymdxn It‘s so awful 😞 6y
REPollock I‘m giving this book for Christmas gifts. 😐😡 5y

JenniferEgnor I feel the same way. But here I am, reading it. Together we fight, together we win. 5y

The prologue is a gut punch & quick history of abortion rights & reproductive health in the USA. The first chapter sets the stage for a post Roe America. Glad my buds were here too get me thru.

Sad to feel the need to read this book now. With my white financially secure privilege, I was able to choose to have an abortion at a time in my life that it was absolutely the right choice for us. I will always fight for women‘s rights to body sovereignty and access to a full range of affordable sexual education and birth control. Have a safe sex Valentine‘s Day.
