Questions I Am Asked About the Holocaust
Questions I Am Asked About the Holocaust | Hédi Fried
7 posts | 7 read | 7 to read
‘There are no stupid questions, nor any forbidden ones, but there are some questions that have no answer.’ Hédi Fried was nineteen when the Nazis snatched her family from their home in Eastern Europe and transported them to Auschwitz, where her parents were murdered and she and her sister were forced into hard labour until the end of the war. Now ninety-four, she has spent her life educating young people about the Holocaust and answering their questions about one of the darkest periods in human history. Questions like, ‘How was it to live in the camps?’, ‘Did you dream at night?’, ‘Why did Hitler hate the Jews?’, and ‘Can you forgive?’. With sensitivity and complete candour, Fried answers these questions and more in this deeply human book that urges us never to forget and never to repeat.

This is such a cool bath bomb! It‘s Lush‘s ‘Flight‘. As I still have the fire-leg, I‘m enjoying baths at the moment as it really helps. Tagged book was sent to me by HET and it‘s excellent so far. 🛀 🛠🧼 🧽 💣 🌈 📖 📚

I gratefully received this in the mail today from Holocaust Memorial Day Trust because I led several activities on HMD last year. I can‘t wait to start it! I find survivor testimony so interesting and it‘s crucial in preserving the story and memory of the Holocaust.

Caroline2 Oh this sounds interesting! Stacked. 👠5y

This is an interesting little book, geared to younger readers about one woman‘s life lived through the atrocity of the concentration camps. It‘s set up as questions and answers and is written simply and clearly. There are concrete answers as well as more philosophical ones but it is all presented very accessibly. I‘m officially alternating between a previously unfinished book and a new to me read. I just finished the previously unfinished one so next up is this new to me read.

This book, which I received as an #EarlyReviewer from #LibraryThing arrived today. It is compelling reading which I should finish later this evening.

SqueakyChu This was an extraordinarily emotionally moving book which I read through in one sitting. The nonagenarian author shares painful memories as well as thoughts about aging, religion, and what the future might hold. Very highly recommended. (edited) 6y

In clear, considered, and vivid prose survivor Hédi Fried answers the questions we all have inside us about the horrors of the Holocaust. In this time more than ever, accessible books on this subject are so necessary.
