It saddens me that this book of contemporary poetry hasn‘t received more attention. Valerio Magrelli has an extraordinary ability to explain the most mundane things and turn them into beautiful portraits and profound points. He is an exquisite artist with words.

The fact that there are multiple poems about this topic in this book really amuses me.

It‘s that the flash cuts the umbilical cord
of the light. It cuts, that pair of scissors,
that slow long filament of the
gaze, the long intestine
that feeds us; it cuts in two
because the image
comes into the world separating itself
from its mother.

that cocoon, is the basket
left to rock upon the waters
to rescue form and keep it safe.

You gave me this red cup
from which to drink to my days on earth

Here‘s my book acquisition from The Dollar Tree! I am so excited about all of these. And that Vanishing Points book is a bilingual edition with poems written in Italian and translated into English. I read through a few at the store and this looks like a truly exquisite collection! 8 brand new books for $8 plus tax! I need to shop for books at The Dollar Tree more often!
