Being laid off has given me the opportunity to focus on finishing these letters to my grands: one almost finished for the 15 yo, then 2 to go ( the 5 yo and 3 yo)! There are some prompts I use and others I create. The tagged book helps as well.
I need prayers and encouragement 🙏🏻! What do you wish your grandparents had told you before they died?
Not tagging anyone - just let me know if you have any suggestions ❤️😉🌸❤️
ValPenny Tell them about your daily life. The little things. Their lives will be so different. Also tell them about your big decisions & why you made them. 5y
Eggs Thanks @ValPenny - great suggestions 💗 5y
Palimpsest I wish I had known more about their daily lives; the things they liked, movies they enjoyed and music, their favorite things to do, especially as younger people, what it was like living in Chicago in the forties, more about what it was like in WWII, so much and now I‘ll never know. Great idea, I want to do this for my son and give a more interior idea of me that what people see on the surface. 5y

ImperfectCJ The things I love are things like knowing "oleo" is margarine and what a nickel Hershey bar is. (A lot of what I know about my maternal grandmother is through her recipes.) My paternal grandpa has been telling me about his childhood during the Spanish Civil War...a child's perspective of this time is fascinating. He and his brothers got into a lot of mischief. I'd love more of all of this kind of thing. 5y
PurpleTulipGirl Tell them about now, if they‘re little. Tell them your hopes for how you think the world will be after this virus. 5y
Eggs @Palimpsest Thanks so much for taking the time to share this 💜❤️💜 5y
Eggs @ImperfectCJ This is wonderful - thanks so much💗🌸💗 5y
Eggs @PurpleTulipGirl That is a great idea 💡👏🏻👏🏻🌸 5y
Hestapleton I wish I knew more about them as people. What did they like what was their favorite food? What did they like to read? I didn‘t find out my grandma was into true crime until she was about to pass! 5y
wanderinglynn I agree with everything above. Your life when you were young. Your parents, your siblings/cousins, what high school was like for you. What you think about today. Any and all of it will be precious to them. I gave my mom this book to jot down her memories so I will have it on the day I no longer have her. 5y

BiblioLitten I feel bad that I couldn‘t get to really know my grandparents. I would have loved to know them as individuals. When people tell me my love for writing comes from my grandfather, I have no clue. He passed away when I was three months old. Like @merelybookish has her great-great grandfather‘s diary, I wish I had something like that! 💕💙 (edited) 5y
merelybookish @BiblioLitten My great-great-grandfather doesn't share a lot of personal details. Over time I'm learning about him based on what he does write about, which is mostly what he did and who he saw. His entries are short and I think they is okay. If one is faithful, all those little entries add up. 5y
Eggs @Hestapleton excellent ideas 💡 thanks so much 5y
Eggs @wanderinglynn Thanks Lynn💜💜 the recommended book sounds so lovely! Has she started filling it in? 5y
Eggs @BiblioLitten perhaps your mom can help fill in the gaps if she‘s still with you? Thanks for sharing this 5y
Eggs This is so true-the entries adding up. Three of my grandparents died before I was born. As a teen, I lost my dad too. So that‘s why I want to make sure my kids and grands have some personalized info... thanks @merelybookish 🌸 5y
merelybookish @Eggs It is so cool that you're doing this! Just don't write in cursive since reading that is a dying art. ☹️ Thanks @BiblioLitten for tagging me. 5y
wanderinglynn @Eggs Yes. She told me she‘s written quite a lot of things. And the nice thing is she can flip through it, read the prompts, and write down things as they come to her. 5y
TheAromaofBooks I wish I knew more about my grandparents' childhood - how they got along with their siblings when they were little - how they met each other & how they knew that the other was “the one“ - how they felt when they found out they were going to have my mom... I feel like so many of my conversations with them were either about me & my life, or about what was going on with them at the time & now there is so much family history that feels lost. 5y
Eggs Thanks 🙏🏻 @merelybookish 5y
Eggs Well that‘s working out nicely for both of you💗 @wanderinglynn 5y
Eggs @TheAromaofBooks I agree and I do take to heart these great suggestions💗🌸💗 Thank you 5y
