The Silver Road
The Silver Road: This compelling and haunting read is perfect for fans of Daniel Woodrells Winters Bone | Stina Jackson
10 posts | 12 read | 19 to read
Three years ago, Lelle's daughter went missing in a remote part of Northern Sweden. Lelle has spent the intervening summers driving the Silver Road under the midnight sun, frantically searching for his lost daughter, for himself and for redemption. Meanwhile, seventeen-year-old Meja arrives in town hoping for a fresh start. She is the same age as Lelle's daughter was - a girl on the brink of adulthood. But for Meja, there are dangers to be found in this isolated place. As autumn's darkness slowly creeps in, Lelle and Meja's lives are intertwined in ways, both haunting and tragic, that they could never have imagined.

Book & exquisite book bag from @Lel2403 ... thankyou Lesley 😘 on my TBR & I really wanted to read ... I did want to find out what happened So , I read on , but mostly the characters were difficult to read about & I found the content disturbing... I realize it‘s 💯 % a Litsy Winner ! So I know I am the #unpopularopinion .... skimmed a bit at times , because found parts too difficult to read.
I greatly appreciate your gift ! “ so-so “ for me

I loved this! Such a gripping book. Lelle still drives along the Silver Road, searching for his missing daughter after 3 years. His ‘obsession‘ has ended to his marriage. Meja has moved to the North of Sweden with her mother. Her mother has met a man on the internet and decided to move them both into his house: she has some serious mental health issues. Meja and Lelle are drawn together in this story - a story that had me on the edge of my seat!

A hauntingly, heartbreakingly beautiful story. The writing is atmospheric, evocative, bleak and very, very dark in places and the translator has done a superb job. This is a stand out Scandi-noir novel. One of my favourites of 2019 so far. 5🌟

Read via the Pigeonhole app.

Really liking this one so far - it‘s translated from the Swedish and I‘m so intrigued by how it‘s going to resolve the mystery and connect the two story threads!
Also - @ShookBelf I got your parcel today - thanks for sending it and for the extra goodies - I‘ve already eaten the caramel eggs! 😅
@LoveToReadLiveToRead - I got your parcel today too, thank you!

LoveToReadLiveToRead Oh good, sorry meant to let you know it was on it‘s way. I should hopefully be able to send you the next one early! X 6y

This was quite a read. It was very dark and yet haunting and so well written. The story was interesting and I hadn't predicted who was behind the abduction. I liked the way the story was told from two different perspectives. The ending was so heartbreaking and yet at the same time there was a glimmer of hope.

NatalieR How‘s your fur baby doing? Any improvements since the surgery? 6y
kezzlou85 @NatalieR well his ear seems better. Still on ear drops but theres no fluid in it. Hes had his tooth removed but unfortunately the facial paralysis has spread to his other eye. So he can't blink out of either eye. He can see though just has no protection for them. Back to the vet hospital on Friday so hopefully will know more than. Thank you for asking. 🐶❤ 6y
NatalieR @kezzlou85 You‘re welcome. 💕 Glad his ear is better. Sorry to hear about the paralysis spreading. 😔 I‘m sure the inability to blink is a pain. Good he can see. Hopefully he‘ll adjust well. He looks like a happy kiddo! 🐾💜 6y

kezzlou85 @NatalieR it's a pain making sure he doesn't scratch his eyes plus he's not liking the eye drops bless him. He is a very happy dog. He even likes going to the vets still. 6y
NatalieR @kezzlou85 I bet that is a challenge. I‘m sure I would be super overprotective! 😀 He‘s absolutely adorable!! 😍 Best wishes for Friday. 6y
kezzlou85 @NatalieR it sure is but we're used to it now. It's so easy to just be constantly watching him especially on walks as can't let him off his lead. Thank you. 6y

This is a dark and disturbing tale of isolation, loss, love and the lengths we would go to for family.......the writing is so good, you can feel the stillness of the cold, the underlying tension and the chilly menace of the forest.....a masterful piece of writing and I can recommend it without reservation.....

I loved this book. It is a story of hope, love, loss, desperation and strength. It was well written, the main characters were likeable and my heart went out to them both. I changed my mind four or five times throughout at what the outcome would be. I‘m giving this one all of the stars and would highly recommend. 5/5 stars.
