Rachel and Leah
Rachel and Leah | Orson Scott Card
1 post | 2 read | 1 to read
Rachel and Leah is book three in New York Times bestselling author Orson Scott Card's Women of Genesis series—a unique reimagining of the biblical tale. Tracing their lives from childhood to maturity, Card shows how the women of Genesis change each other—and are changed again by the holy books that Jacob brings with him. Leah, the oldest daughter of Laban, whose "tender eyes" prevent her from fully participating in the daily work of her nomadic family, and Rachel, the spoiled younger daughter, the petted and privileged beauty of the family—or so it seems to Leah. There is also Bilhah, an orphan who is not quite a slave but not really a family member, a young woman desperately searching to fit in, and Zilpah, who knows only how to use her beauty to manipulate men as she strives to secure for herself something better than the life of drudgery and servitude into which she has been born. Into the desert camp comes Jacob, a handsome and charismatic kinsman who is clearly destined to be Rachel's husband. But that doesn't prevent the other women from vying for his attention. Ambition, jealousy, fear, and love motivate them as they vie for the attention of Jacob, heir to the spiritual birthright of Abraham and Isaac. Women of Genesis #1 Sarah #2 Rebekah #3 Rachel and Leah At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I had to Google to find literary characters with my name. Thankfully @bookriot has a whole rundown of Rachels in literature.

And I‘ve never read a single one.

Except for the ones with the Biblical character.

rachelsbrittain I had a similar issue but fortunately immediately thought of the main character in Crazy Rich Asians which was the only Rachel I could think of off the cuff 😅 6y
mrsmarch @rachelsbrittain Good for you! And I don‘t have that on my TBR, so I never would have thought of that one. 6y
rachelsbrittain @mrsmarch it's a really fun read! 6y

sblbooks This one is in my TBR stack. According to Google it has a Samantha or Sam. 6y
mrsmarch @DGRachel @rachelsbrittain We should start a Rachels Book Club!! 6y
mrsmarch @rachelsbrittain I‘ll just hashtag this #rachelsbookclub so I can find it later. #rachelsreadbooks 6y
DGRachel @mrsmarch @rachelsbrittain I like that idea and those are both fun hashtags!😂 The only non-biblical Rachel I could think of was a drunk, unreliable narrator and I DNF‘d it😳 6y
mrsmarch @DGRachel @rachelsbrittain We need to bend our brains to this book club idea. Doesn‘t have to be books about Rachels. We could do a by-mail book club? I‘ve never done one. Also, I‘ve heard the narrator of The Girl on the Train was a horrible person, sorta sad we share a name. 6y
sebrittainclark @rachelsbrittain @DGRachel @mrsmarch there's a Rachel in Anne of Green Gables too, but that's the only one I can think of. 6y
mrsmarch @sebrittain @rachelsbrittain @dgrachel Wasn‘t she also a less than admirable woman, a bit nosy and judgemental? I feel like the name is just cursed! (edited) 6y
Kaye Might not be admirable ? But it‘s a Rachel in a book 6y
