Incredibly tough read, due to the awful lives the children are in. The lack of love and guidance was upsetting and I found it hard to see much positivity in the parents.

A really heavy read, beautifully written, meant to be absorbed slowly. About a poor family of Taiwanese immigrants in Alaska drowning in grief after a tragedy.
Gatekeeper.

Anyone else keep books in the car to read at red lights and in drive thrus? 😂
Moving is so hard and so horrible, but this morning, I get to sit in my NEW LIBRARY and read and drink my coffee. I‘ve never had a space like this with all my book and a comfy chair and it‘s all worth it.
This is about an immigrant family from Korea leaving in Alaska.during the 80's. The book is narrated by Gavin the oldest son of the this family of son. He takes the blame or maybe I should say feels he is too blame of some of things that happens. He has the weight of life on his shoulders. At first I felt this was a story of vignettes, but the end this culminated into a lovely story that tied everything together. Wonderful book.
A great debut novel about the immigrant experience. This novel has a quiet eeriness that seems to echo its setting in Alaska. The author does an especially good job of giving the feeling of a child‘s point of view in that the story unravels ascit would for a child, seemingly different stories coelese in the end, and as understanding grows, so does the complexity of the truth. #netgalley
