Something Borrowed, Someone Dead
Something Borrowed, Someone Dead | M. C. Beaton
Agatha Raisin knows the truth when she sees it. Now all she has to do is find it "" "Gloria French was a jolly widow with bottle-blonde hair, a raucous laugh, and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswold hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back-a teapot here, a set of silverware there. So it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered by a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine. Afraid the murder will be a blight on the small town, the Parish councilor hires private detective Agatha Raisin to lead the murder investigation. But the village is secretive and no one's talking. Of course that doesn't stop the ever-persistent Agatha from sticking her nose where no one wants it-especially as the suspect list grows. And if it"" isn't enough that Agatha's own ex has reentered the picture, the killer is now targeting Agatha With "Something Borrowed, Someone Dead, "M. C. Beaton delivers more of the Agatha Raisin readers can't get enough of." ""M. C. Beaton has a foolproof plot for the village mystery."-The New York Times Book Review" " " " "In this] lively mystery Agatha displays a wit and sharp tongue that will continue to please her many fans."-Publishers Weekly" "" " "Beaton has a winner in the irrepressible, romance-hungry Agatha."-Chicago Sun-Times""

This was so much better than the previous Agatha Raisin I listened to (and it helps that the regular voice narrator was back!). I laughed out loud at a few spots - anyone who knows Agatha knows she cannot cook, yet she had to sub on a cooking show. Disaster strikes!

Mystery with sinister happenings, along with the usual character complications. Good listen!

There‘s not much else I can say about this series that I haven‘t said already. I love the audiobooks and I‘m getting towards the end of the series. Not sure what I will listen to to fill in the void once I‘m finished. 4⭐️

Avanders So many cozy options.... 😁 Have you read Ellery Adams? (Author) 4y
JenlovesJT47 @Avanders I haven‘t but I‘ve been meaning to for ages! 4y
Avanders Oooh - she has a few series. I read the 1st in the Secret Book & Scone series & loved it. I also loved the 1st in the Book Retreat Mysteries series (I think that one has the most books). I‘m reading the 1st in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries now (& enjoying it) ... and there‘s the Books By the Bay series.. I didn‘t love that 1st one, but I‘m going to give the 2nd a shot since I clearly like her writing! I like her focus on friendships! 💖 4y
JenlovesJT47 Thanks for all the recommendations! Have you read the Phryne Fisher series? It‘s my all-time fave cozy mystery series. Kerry Greenwood also has another cozy series set in present day Australia, the Corinna Chapman series. I think you would really like those! @Avanders (edited) 4y

I adored this title by M.C Beaton, from the cover to the wonderful story written amongst the pages!
Definitely recommend the Agatha Raisin series to those seeking a humorous, light murder mystery. ☺

I love cozy mysteries. Agatha Raisin did not disappoint. I watched the Agatha Raisin tv series, and although there are some differences, I can honestly say I like both the books and the tv series.
Did some baking. Tea, a muffin and on to another new book.

I love watching Agatha Raisin on tv. I have never read the books, so I decided to pick one up at the library. Hope it‘s as good as the tv show.

Another fun and interesting read in the Agatha Raisin Series, although in this one she descends into the village from hell! What is it about these quiet rural English villages, they are deathly; just ask Miss Marple and so many others.

Started the next book in the Agatha Raisin Series. These are always good quick and entertaining reads, and already give me a good laugh! She may not be my favourite of characters but funny things do happen around her, not to mention deaths!

TheCanuckReader I'm working my way through them too :) 7y
Andrew65 @TheCanuckReader Where are you up to? 7y
TheCanuckReader I haven't been able to get them all in the proper order. I read up to #4, then 15, 22, 23...lol 7y
Andrew65 @TheCanuckReader It is one of those series you don't need to read in order. A lot of my early reading in this series wasn't in order, likewise with her Hamish MacBeth series I am reading. 7y
TheCanuckReader Yep. Espec since they give a good recap about the various characters in the beginning of most books 7y
