Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley
Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley | Lauren Gunderson, Margot Melcon
6 posts | 2 read | 6 to read
A sequel to Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice set two years after the novel ends, MISS BENNET continues the story, only this time with bookish middle-sister Mary as its unlikely heroine. Mary is growing tired of her role as dutiful middle sister in the face of her siblings romantic escapades. When the family gathers for Christmas at Pemberley, an unexpected guest sparks Marys hopes for independence, an intellectual match, and possibly even love.

This conclusion to a trilogy of plays (set at Pemberley at Christmas) was just the icing on the cake. It even flashes forward in the second act so we can see how everyone is doing six years in the future. Pairing up Georgiana and Kitty as best friends was such a perfect fit for the story. It has serious Persuasion vibes and I loved every second of it. Now if only I could see them performed in person!

Such a fun chance to dip into the wildest Bennett sister‘s world. I love that we have a chance to see Lydia mature and learn to take some responsibility for her life. The audio was entertaining, but the music was obnoxious at times and really loud compared to the dialogue. Definitely worth a listen. (Litsy wouldn‘t recognize the correct book, so I tagged another great one.)

BkClubCare Ha! I listened to this one, as well. It was fun. 2y
AvidReader25 @BkClubCare I never thought I‘d feel sympathy for Lydia, but this book did a great job, giving her a little more depth. 2y

Loved rereading this one! In this sequel to Pride & Prejudice, Mary is witty and suffers no fools. I love seeing her character's development. Jane, Lizzy and their husbands are still very much in love. Lydia is still the worst and Mary finds herself bucking under all of her sisters' expectations and assumptions. It's clever, engaging, and manages to add depth to the Bennet sisters' relationships. I would love to see this on stage!

A sweet sequel to Pride and Prejudice. It was so fun to jump back into the lives of the Bennet sisters and see life happen at Christmas time at Pemberley with middle sister, Mary, at the center of this quick, witty, and lovely play.

Saw this play yesterday with @VioletCavalier @Cadyly @BookGeek and another friend; it was positively enjoyable! It had all the wit, misunderstandings, and touching moments of Jane Austen‘s work!!! Plus there were several references to the content in Pride and Prejudice 🥰

Happy Birthday, Jane Austen! 🎂
