Joanna Shupe‘s New York historicals are my favorites! The setting is so much fun and her heroines are such impressive women that challenge norms and think for themselves.

Mamie has grown up in the world of New York elites. She has started doing charity which opened her eyes to more of the world than she‘s seen before. Frank Tripp, her fathers lawyer, is from those rougher roots and has put it behind him to represent the rich men of New York.

Loved this flirty, feminist historical! A quick fun read that kept me away from the news cycle. Work is finally calming down, so thankful I can disappear inside a book. #romantsy

My least favorite Shupe so far, but still very good. Self-made lawyer pretending to be part of NYC 1890s high society falls for one of his client‘s daughters. I like the class difference aspect, I didn‘t love some of the character choices/conflicts.

I wasn't sure about this one at first, but it turned out to be a good book. There were some intense hurdles to pass, but it was well done. The next one comes out in a few days.

Really starting to think that Shupe is just not for me, even if a bunch of authors I like blurb her. Never mind. I‘m also getting really sick of one of the current sex scene tropes in historical, but that might be too pg-13 and up for here!

Next romance read from the library - and I have a mixed record with Shute, so we‘ll see...

This is another good one from this author. I nearly put it down about halfway, because there is a lot going on in this plot. Suffrage, murder, domestic violence, corruption, class strife. The author handled it well, even placing the story later in time than most Victorian historicals. This time adjustment does help explain the modern thought injected into the story.

An offshoot of another series, The Rogue of Fifth Avenue features Frank Tripp and Mamie Greene, two characters divided by social class with a common interest that drives them together. I really love how Ms. Shupe manages to give historical facts and seamlessly weaves it into the story making The Rogue of Fifth Avenue a great love story for the Gilded Age.

I was immediately excited about the whole “Robin Hood“ connection. It was easy to spot at the onset, but I quickly lost sight of the comparisons in favor of the way Joanna Shupe continues to craft these historical romances that have so much relevance to today. #historicalromance
