Two acclaimed young adult authors join forces for a novel about growing up, leaving home, and that one fateful email that assigns . . . your college roommate. The countdown to university has begun... When Elizabeth receives her first-year roommate assignment at the beginning of summer, she shoots off an email to coordinate the basics: TV, microwave, mini-fridge. She can't wait to escape her New Jersey beach town - and her mum - and start life afresh in California. That first note to Lauren in San Francisco comes as a surprise; she had requested a single. But if Lauren's learned anything from being the oldest of six, it's that you don't always get what you want, especially when what you want is privacy. Soon the girls are emailing back and forth, sharing secrets even though they've never met. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives ... and each other.

Panpan

I bought this book ages ago and when I first attempted reading it, it was a dreadful experience. I hadn't even gotten to 20 pages and I was already tempted to feed this book to my garbage can. I was tired of seeing it on my shelf so I read it. The portrayed outlook of female friendship is toxic and it's weird that this book is written like a novel for middle schoolers but is designated for future university or college students.

Book 8 for #24b4monday

This is a feel good book. It's such a fun idea, to experience the friendship forming between newly assigned dorm mates via email. I love how they were able to be there for each other in such a time of transition without ever have met one another. This book was totally nostalgic for me. I remember getting my roommate assignment and guessing with my bestie what she would be like. All these years later we are still friends.

TheDaysGoBy I really enjoyed this one too 5y

I really enjoyed this! The audiobook was especially enjoyable as the two characters were read by two different people. Brought back memories of when I got my letter “introducing” me to my college roommate.

My low-tech Bingo card. This is as far as I‘ll get with it, even though I‘ll be reading for a few more hours. #readathon

So the summer before my freshman year of college was nothing like either of these girl‘s, but I related to the anticipation completely!

The awkward moment when these two girls talked on the phone for the first time after emailing reminded me of my own experience of that with my college roomie and future BFF 😂

This book was a lot about closing a chapter and starting a new one. It seems to have entered my life at the perfect time.

TheDaysGoBy Glad you enjoyed it! I know I did - got all the nostalgia and feels I‘m sure you did reading this ;) 6y
