So. This was quite a surprise. Granted I‘d gone in with low expectations, but I loved the first half, the plot twist at that point felt a little like ‘and the kitchen sink for good measure‘, but I‘d forgiven everything by the end.

1937. Raymond de Guise is principal dancer at London‘s Buckingham hotel. Nancy Nettleton, the new chambermaid, hasn‘t quite got the hang of being invisible or knowing her place. And everybody but everybody has secrets👇

rockpools From the cover I expected a shiny romance, but the romance is just one storyline. I‘ve seen it compared to Downton, I got more of a Dirty Dancing vibe in places. Du Beke has set this firmly in the politics of the time, the dangers of being open about your identity, the rise of fascism across Europe and the fear of your country going to pieces. An enjoyable read. 5y

I picked up this one expecting a bit of fluff and sequins (Anton‘s one of the pro dancers on Strictly Come Dancing here in the UK), but according to the reviews there‘s actually more to it than that. Of course I haven‘t read it yet...

And #attheendoftheday today I‘m celebrating having hit the Submit button on my tax return for another year. I have eaten way too many biscuits today!

Very good. This book has many hidden secrets just like the hotel and the characters within it. This book is what the saying don't judge a book by it's cover is for as the cover draws you in thinking it will be a light read, but it is so much more as it covers issues such as race and class and what happens when it is questioned in society. Thank you #ReadersFirst for the free copy
