The Walking Man
The Walking Man | Jir? Taniguchi
3 posts | 2 read | 6 to read
The Walking Man is a reprint of Jiro Taniguchi's most cherished title. It is a book in which nothing happens but everything occurs. The Walking Man follows a modern day Japanese business man as he strolls at random through urban Japan - often silent, usually alone - with his vivid dreams that let time stand still. Join him as he climbs a tree in bare feet, takes time out to observe the birds, plays in the puddles after the rain and returns a shell to the sea. It is an ideal way for readers and graphic novel-lovers to relax.

Diversity keeps me happy. Lots of Indigenous authors this month, and lots of women authors. Life is good. #readingstats

Pickpick

A mostly wordless #graphicnovel with highly realistic art about a Japanese man who enjoys living in the moment. He spends a lot of time outdoors in all seasons, walking. He listens and pays attention to nature, the urban environment and the people around him. In the scene above, he gets off a commuter bus because he spots an inviting path that leads up to a temple. A lovely serene book, and one that might lower your blood pressure. #translation

It‘s soothing to read a mostly-pictures graphic novel about a man who does things like climb a tree to rescue a toy airplane for some children.

readordierachel So detailed! 6y
Lindy @readordierachel Yes, his work reminds me of the Korean artist Kim Dong Hwa. 6y
